In its time, the two hundred year old Grandholm Mill in Bridge of Don has laid claim to being one of the tallest buildings in Scotland, the largest linen works in Scotland and later, the largest woollen tweed mill in Scotland. The original waterwheel was even believed to be the largest in the world.
An investment of £1million has been made in refurbishing the two hundred metre section of the Lade waterway around the Mill, using local, natural materials, restoring original features and creating sensitive enhancements such as cobblestone promenades with feature balustrade and lampposts. The original turbine powered by the great waterwheel was retained and is on view with the original fire pumps in The Spice Mill Restaurant. |
